MENA Blockchain Week 2026, May 18, Day 1 Recap: Builders & Community Day

Day 1 set the tone, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. MENA Blockchain Week 2026 opened with its Builders & Community Day on May 18 at Hadron Founders Club, Dubai. From the very first minute, the energy in the room made one thing unmistakably clear: this was not a typical opening ceremony.

The Builders & Community Day Kickoff

The stage brought together some of the most influential voices shaping the blockchain ecosystem across the MENA region and beyond. Dr. Marwan Alzarouni, CEO of the Dubai Blockchain Center, set the institutional tone alongside Saqr Ereiqat, Secretary General of the Dubai Digital Asset Association. BK Kanjhan, Chief of Staff at Polygon Labs, represented the protocol layer, while Saed Ereiqat, Director of Hadron Founders Club, grounded the conversation in the infrastructure that made the week possible. MoeX Mohamad Alhusseini, Founder of MENA Blockchain Week, brought it all together.

The message that emerged from the opening was not a vision statement. It was a working principle: ecosystems don't grow because of one institution, one protocol, or one event. They grow because builders, regulators, operators, and founders decide to show up in the same room, consistently, and do the work together.

The Ethereum Meetup

Hosted in partnership with the Dubai Ethereum Community Hub, part of the Ethereum Foundation's global Ethereum Everywhere program and based at Hadron Founders Club, the builders who gathered were not there to speculate on price. They came to discuss infrastructure, the evolution of Layer 2 solutions, the next generation of Ethereum-native applications, and how enterprises across the MENA region can build on top of the most decentralized, most secure, and most composable smart contract environment available today.

The conversation was grounded in a conviction that runs deep across the regional ecosystem: the decisions being made right now about which protocols to build on, which standards to adopt, and which communities to invest in will shape the next decade of the regional economy. The Ethereum community that gathered on May 18 understood that weight. And they came prepared to carry it.

Pitch Storm

Pitch Storm is not a standard startup competition. It is a pressure test. In a room full of builders, operators, and investors who have seen hundreds of pitches, there is nowhere to hide. The audience listens differently. The questions cut deeper. The feedback is real.

The session was hosted by Maia Zennie, Tech Ecosystem Builder, with an opening keynote by Nabil Arnous, Chief Commercial Officer, Innovation City.

For the MENA region to maintain its position as a global digital assets hub, it needs a continuous pipeline of builder talent. Day 1 answered the question before anyone had to ask it. What does it take to build Web3 infrastructure that lasts? The people in that room already knew. And they showed up to prove it.
